Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres was a French painter and one of the most important representatives of official art in 19th century France. In 1841 he moved to Paris where his art was praised from all sides, so that he received many honors. Ingres always strove for the perfect form. He revered the art of Raphael and thus created calm, detailed paintings with a penchant for the antique.
