Anthony van Dyck was a Flemish painter of the Baroque period who was particularly successful as a portraitist at the London court. Contemporaries and followers especially appreciated Van Dyck's palette, the colorfulness, fine tonality and sovereignty of nuances. As an outstanding portraitist, he worked, among others, for Charles I.

These Artsocks inspired by the portraits of Genoese Lady and President Richardot show on one side a female and on the other side a male character. Throughout the Baroque period, and much of the world’s artistic history, women were nearly always represented in terms of their value or relation to men. We put both genders on equal sides of the plate and symbolize gender equality and human empowerment which is free from gender molding.
